PVC Coated Fabrics

PVC-Coated Fabrics

PVC Coated Fabrics are those made with polyester scrim and coated with PVC Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC or Vinyl) a chemical compound high-strength thermoplastic material. They are the most popular coated fabrics for architectural applications.

Architectural PVC-coated fabrics created with a liquid PVC coating on both sides of the scrims. This is done in a knife coating process.

An applied finishing topcoat provides better resistance against dirt by sealing off the plasticizers in the PVC, which otherwise migrate to the surface and make it sticky. Some finish coatings provide additional UV resistance which extends the life of the fabric, and some provide a dirt-repellent surface.

These fabrics tend to be highly durable, often lasting for well over two decades. Lightweight uses specialized equipment in our manufacturing which allows us to offer up to a 25-year pro-rated manufacturer warranty on any of our highest-quality architectural fabrics that you choose.

Lightweight offers an enormous catalog and selection of PVC-coated fabrics from Serge Ferrari to Verseidag, Lightweight dedicates itself to finding the perfect solution to your tensile projects. If you have any questions in regards to what other fabrics we offer, please feel free to contact our experts.

S2 Topcoat

Serge Ferrari offers a weldable PVDF topcoat named S2. This topcoat is a calibrated mixture of acrylic and PVDF. The acrylic keeps the fabric weldable while the PVDF gives the surface its dirt-repellent properties. Lightweight Manufacturing offers other Serge Ferrari fabrics, as well.

TX-30 Topcoat

TX-30 is a pure PVDF topcoat cross-linked for additional durability. It is non-weldable and requires abraiding of the TX-30 topcoat for overlap welds.

PVC Mesh Fabrics

The most common use for architectural PVC mesh is for shading and solar protection. Since the yarns are the same as in solid architectural fabrics, the same tensile structures inherit the benefit of lower wind effects.

PVC meshes are also popular to create facade panels and wall panels.  The transparency of the material is a great benefit for wall applications. Specific meshes function for wind load resistance and expected deflection as a function of prestressing and dimensioning.

Architectural meshes combine the benefits of energy-saving by limiting solar heat gain, retaining transparency and creating an interesting architectural aesthetic.

A special type of mesh fabric, with micro-perforations, acts as a acoustical liner.  Serge Ferrari’s Alphalia Silent (formerly Batyline Aw) is the most popular.

NOTE that the Ferrari product names recently changed. Please contact us or Serge Ferrari for any clarifications on what the new name is for an existing product that you have used before.
